Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating a QueryU account or otherwise using the QueryU website at query-u.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

QueryU is operated as a sole proprietorship by an individual based in Texas, United States (the "Operator," "we," "us," "our"). Contact: [email protected].

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use QueryU. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms in your jurisdiction.

3. Your account

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in credentials.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.
  • Notifying us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
  • Providing accurate, up-to-date information when registering or updating your profile.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe have been used in violation of these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

  • Attempt to break, overload, or disrupt the Service or its underlying infrastructure (Supabase, Netlify, Stripe, or others).
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape at scale, or attempt to extract proprietary content (challenge solutions, lesson content, schema descriptions) for republication.
  • Use the Service to host or transmit unlawful, harassing, or harmful material.
  • Submit SQL designed to exploit vulnerabilities, escalate privileges, or access data belonging to other users.
  • Share your account credentials with others or use multiple accounts to evade Free-tier limits.
  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law.

Submissions are run inside a sandboxed PostgreSQL environment with row-level security and query timeouts. Attempts to escape the sandbox or run destructive operations will result in account termination.

5. Intellectual property

All challenge content, lessons, schema documentation, code samples, branding, and the underlying software comprising the Service are owned by the Operator or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You retain ownership of any SQL queries or feedback you submit through the Service. By submitting them, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to store, process, display, and use them solely to operate and improve the Service.

6. Free tier and Pro subscription

The Service offers a Free tier (limited to a subset of challenges) and a paid Pro subscription (full challenge access plus additional features). Pro subscriptions are billed monthly or annually through Stripe, our payment processor.

  • Subscription fees are charged in advance, in U.S. dollars, and are non-refundable except as described in Section 7.
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled before the renewal date.
  • You can cancel at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal, accessible from your Account page.
  • If you cancel, you retain Pro access through the end of the current billing period and are not billed again.
  • We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' notice. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance.

7. Refund policy

If you are dissatisfied with Pro within 14 days of your initial subscription, email [email protected] and we will refund the most recent payment. After 14 days, refunds are not available, but you can cancel at any time to stop future charges.

Annual subscription renewals are eligible for a prorated refund within 14 days of the renewal charge.

8. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time with Delete Account on your Account page, which deletes it straight away and cancels any active Pro subscription, or by emailing [email protected]. We may terminate or suspend your account immediately, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately. Surviving sections (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) continue to apply.

9. Educational content disclaimer

QueryU is an educational platform. Content, challenges, and lessons are provided for learning purposes only. They do not constitute professional advice — including but not limited to legal, medical, financial, or technical consulting advice. Do not rely on QueryU content to make production database decisions without independent verification.

10. "As is" — no warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or availability. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall the operator be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service, whether based in contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise.

Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the Service, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) your violation of any third-party right.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.

You waive any right to a jury trial and any right to participate in a class action.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. If a change is material, we will notify you in-app or by email. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Operator regarding the Service.
